Renting as a student: are you paying too much?

Having your own place as a student is exciting and educational. It means independence, taking on personal responsibilities, and dealing with roommates. But you don’t want to overpay for that experience. Bumarang can help you determine if you’re paying too much and, if so, what you can do about it.

How do you know what you should pay?

The maximum rent for a room can be calculated using a points system. Points are awarded based on the size of the room and available amenities. The more points, the higher the rent can be. Have your own shower, kitchen, or sink? That gives your room more points. However, if you share a shower or toilet with more than five roommates, you won’t earn any points for that.

Group contract or individual contract?

Sometimes roommates jointly rent an entire house through a group contract. This changes the calculation. Are you part of such a group contract? Then the points system for independent living space determines the maximum rent.

Paying too much? Bumarang is here to help!

If you believe you’re overpaying, turn to bumarang. Send us your contract, and we’ll assess your situation. We’ll present the rent price to the landlord. If necessary, we’ll start a procedure with the rent commission. During this procedure, we stay in contact with the landlord, constantly exploring opportunities for a resolution.

Our goal is to get a lower price, preferably as soon as possible. Our terms are simple: bumarang handles everything, in exchange for the rent you’ve overpaid until the reduction is applied. If we can’t achieve a reduction, you won’t incur any costs.

Start saving!

Ready to take the next step? Fill out the rent check and send us your contract. We’ll then inform you about how much you could save next month.
